Enrollment Policy

Date of Annual Lottery

The World Compass Academy lottery for the 2018/2019 academic year will be held on December 5, 2017.

The deadline to submit an Intent to Enroll for consideration in the 2018/2019 World Compass Academy lottery is December 1, 2017.

Incoming siblings of current students, Founding Families, and children of Staff must submit an Intent to Enroll by October 13, 2017 to be eligible for priority enrollment. (See "Priority Enrollment" and "Sibling Enrollment" below).

The Lottery Process

All 2018/2019 academic year Intent to Enroll forms received by December 1, 2017, are assigned a computer-generated student number. This number is assigned for the upcoming academic year only. Enrollment vacancies are filled by random selection of assigned numbers, beginning with the highest grade for which there are vacancies and continuing in descending order until all grades are filled. There is a separate lottery for each grade and language. Students are placed in the lottery by their first choice language selection. After the initial lottery is complete, vacancies in a language are filled from one master waitlist per grade, regardless of first choice language selection. Students may be offered an alternate language choice. Once a student accepts enrollment they may not change their language for the upcoming academic year.

Intent to Enroll forms submitted after December 1, 2017 will be waitlisted behind lottery students, with priority based on submission date, with the exception of families with priority status. (See section "Priority Enrollment").

The lottery generated waitlist is maintained until the date of the next lottery the following year, or the next business day, when a new lottery list is generated to fill vacancies for the upcoming academic year.

Families must fill out an Intent to Enroll form each year they desire to participate in the World Compass Academy lottery. Waitlist names from previous lotteries are not carried over. Siblings of current students must complete an Intent to Enroll form.

Current Student Intent to Enroll

Currently enrolled students are not required to participate in the annual lottery. Kindergarten through Grade 8 families will be required to submit an Intent to Return form each Spring, and Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten families will be required to submit an Intent to Return form each Fall to secure a place at World Compass Academy the following academic year. Intent to Return forms are due by April 15th each year for Kindergarten through Grade 8. Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Intent to Return forms are due October 13th.

Priority Enrollment

Priority enrollment is granted to the following groups of students prior to the lottery:

1) Currently Enrolled Students

2) Children in the household of or under the legal guardianship of Founding Families

3) Children of Administrators, Teachers, and Staff employed a minimum of 20 hours a week at WCA

Administrator, Teacher, and Staff Children enrollment will be prioritized based on:

a) Hire Date

b) Number of Paid Hours Weekly (with full time employees receiving highest priority and 20 hour a week employees receiving lowest priority)

(The sum of #2 and #3 will comprise no more than 20% of total student enrollment with children of Founding Families having priority over children of Administrators, Teachers, and Staff)

4) Siblings of Currently Enrolled Students

Founding Family

A Founding Family includes children in the household of any member of the World Compass Academy Board and children in the household of any family or person that provided at least 60 hours of approved volunteer service toward the establishment of World Compass Academy by November 30, 2014. Up to 15% of projected enrollment is guaranteed to Founding Families. Founding Family priority is based on the completion date of the 60 approved volunteer hours.

Administrator, Teacher, and Staff Children Enrollment

All administrators, teachers, and staff employed a minimum of 20 hours per week will have priority enrollment for children of which they have legal guardianship. The combined enrollment of children of Founding Families and Administrators, Teachers, and Staff shall not exceed 20% of the total school population.

Administrator, Teacher, and Staff Children enrollment will be prioritized based on:

1) Hire Date

2) Number of Paid Hours Weekly (with fulltime employees receiving highest priority and 20 hour per week employees receiving lowest priority)

Sibling Enrollment

All incoming siblings of current students must submit an Intent to Enroll by October 13 to receive priority status. Once a student is enrolled, his/her younger siblings will be automatically enrolled in their respective grades, assuming an Intent to Enroll is submitted by October 13 (prior to the general lottery for that grade assuming there are available openings). Multiple birth children will be enrolled together regardless of class size, except in the case of Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten.

All families who have completed Intent to Enroll forms will be notified of their admission status via e-mail by December 8th, or the next business day. Families will have 48 hours to either accept or decline enrollment.

Enrollment

Enrollment offers are extended on or before December 8th via email and/or telephone. Upon receiving an Invitation to Enroll, the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the child(ren) shall complete the online Lottery Response form within 48 hours.

Registration forms shall be downloaded by the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) from the school website and submitted to the school within one week of the initial enrollment offer. A $200 annual student fee is due at registration.

Families who are unable to meet these deadlines, or who are experiencing financial hardship, should contact the school office prior to the deadline to discuss available options.

If no Lottery Response form is received by the school within 48 hours from the time any child was extended an Invitation to Enroll, or Registration forms are not submitted to the school within the time allowed, the school will assume the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the child(ren) have declined to enroll the child(ren) in the school, and the school may then extend an Invitation to Enroll to another child.
