Dress Code

The purpose of World Compass Academy’s Dress Code policy is to improve the learning environment by:
  • Ensuring clothing is modest and non-offensive.
  • Reducing peer pressure and emphasis on brand name clothing.
  • Minimizing health and safety concerns.
  • Developing consistency to reduce conflicts and questions of enforcement.
  • Promoting a sense of school unity and belonging for all students.
  • Differentiate school as a special place.
Effective for the 2018-19 school year, the 5th - 8th grade middle school formal uniform Oxford Shirt and Peter Pan Blouse will be light blue. The plaid will remain the same as elementary. 
 
Policy

Please note that Dress Code items not specifically covered below but considered inappropriate or contrary to the purpose of the dress code policy are subject to review and interpretation by the administrator and/or Board of Directors.

*Preschool students are not required to wear uniforms.
 
Tops

Students may wear any solid colored polo or oxford shirt that meets the following requirements:
  • is unadorned — defined as NO: writing, lace, ruffles, sequins, or decorative embroidery, a small graphic or adornment (less than 1′′ square) is acceptable
  • has no incidental trim except on the inside collar and on button lining
  • has the collar folded down
  • is long enough to be tucked in when bending over
  • has sleeves that cover the shoulders (may be short or long sleeved)
  • is not sheer, tight or otherwise revealing
  • is free from tears, frays, or holes
  • is not excessively worn
 
Students may wear a long or short sleeved unadorned solid white t-shirt, tank top, or turtle neck underneath the polo or oxford shirt. Students may wear an unadorned solid navy blue sweater or sweatshirt (no hoodies) over the polo or oxford shirt. Unadorned solid navy blue non-hooded/zip-up sweatshirts are also allowed. No other layering on top of the polo or oxford shirt is permitted. World Compass Academy’s embroidered logo is permitted on polo shirts, oxford shirts, sweaters, and sweatshirts.
 
Bottoms

Students may wear any navy blue or khaki pants, capris, shorts, skorts, jumpers, or skirts that meet the following requirements:
  • is not denim, nylon, sweatpant, leather, or vinyl material
  • is no more than 2 inches above the knee
  • is unadorned — defined as NO: writing, lace, ruffles, sequins, or decorative embroidery, except on back pockets
  • has no incidental trim (a bow or ribbon in the same color as the skirt fabric is allowed)
  • is not sheer, tight or otherwise revealing
  • is free from tears, frays or holes
  • is not excessively worn
Girls MUST wear inconspicuous spandex/bike shorts under skirts or jumpers. (White or khaki under khaki skirts; black or navy under navy skirts). Shorts must extend onto the thigh, and they may not show below the skirt. Girls may alternately wear navy, white, black, or khaki tights or leggings under skirts and/ or jumpers. No other clothing or layering that shows is permitted.

Girls may wear khaki or navy polo dresses.
 
Shoes

Students may wear any shoes that have a strap or some sort of a back on the shoe so that it doesn’t slip off the feet. Heel height is limited to 1 inch or less. Students may not wear:
  • Slippers
  • Shoes with wheels
 
Hair

Students may wear their hair and hair accessories in any way that is not so extreme in style or color so as to distract from a learning environment.

Accessories

Body piercing jewelry will be limited to earrings. Students may wear jewelry that is appropriate for school and is not a distraction. Students may wear an unadorned solid black or brown belt (no sashes) to be worn in the pant belt loops. Any socks may be worn with long pants. If socks or tights are worn with capris, shorts, jumpers, skorts, or skirts; the socks or tights must be white, black, khaki, or navy blue. Hats may not be worn in the building. Accessories may not be distracting and must be appropriate to a learning environment.

Coats

Students may wear any style of coat that is not offensive and is appropriate to a learning environment. Coats may not be worn during class time.

Other Attire

Students may choose other attire such as backpacks, purses, etc. that is not offensive and is appropriate to a learning environment. These items are to be left in lockers and/or designated areas during school hours.
 
Formal Uniform

Educational Outfitters is our formal uniform supplier. View the FLYER for 2017-18 pricing information. The formal uniform is to be worn the first day of school, for all field trips, for all guest speakers, at all assemblies, and for class presentations or special events, as designated by the teacher. A monthly calendar will be sent home the first week of each month designating Formal Uniform Days.
**Uniforms are not required for preschool students.

*Only one Peter Pan Blouse or one Oxford Shirt in long sleeve or short sleeve are required, unless you prefer to have both. Only one skirt or jumper is required for girls. The Peter Pan Blouse must be worn under the jumper. The Oxford Shirt may not be worn under the jumper. An Oxford Shirt or Peter Pan Blouse may be worn with the skirt, as long as it remains tucked in.

**Cardigan Sweaters are optional. The formal uniform sweaters are the only outer layer that may be worn inside the classroom or common areas on formal dress days. Any appropriate outerwear may be worn for recess.
