Jan 27th-Jan 31st
Hey All,

This week is our first full week of school in quite some time! Looking forward to accomplishing a lot. No testing at all, except for spelling test on Tuesday. Yes, Fundations homework should be coming home today with your child.

Update for the week are:

Wednesday: Formal Uniforms required for assembly. Our Assembly time is 2:15-2:45

Friday: Pizza Friday...still time to buy today if you haven't done so yet.

This week in class we will be continuing our Viking Quest, ask your child about it, we are having a lot of fun while learning about Vikings! We also reached 10 ducks last week and the kids voted for a 'Nerf War." I need to get with coach to figure out a time we can use the gym for an hour. I will keep you updated as to when exactly it will all happen.

Also, heads up, next Friday, February 7th will be our 100 days of school celebration...so start thinking about how you can use stuff around the house to make your child look '100 years old'. It's a day I always enjoy a lot.

Jan 21st-24th
Hi parents,

Hope you enjoyed your four day weekend with your kiddo's, I know I did. This week we will not have Fundations homework...I am still collecting Unit 6 week 2 this week to avoid study hall. We will have our weekly spelling test but I have told the kids that we will have it tomorrow instead of today. Next week will go back to normal on Tuesdays.

Tomorrow is Spirit Day at Briccey's coffee shop...the students are allowed to wear spirit wear to school. Friday is our Skate City field trip. We will be leaving on the buss at 9:15 am and get to Skate city in Littleton at 10 am. Parents are welcome to meet us there if they would like to attend. Please pack a completely disposable lunch and disposable water bottle for your child for the day. Also, please make sure their name is on their lunch and water bottle. We did this trip last year and it was so much fun! Let me know if you have any questions.

October 28th - November 1st

Hi All!

I hope that you are safe and warm on this very snowy Monday! Here are this week's updates:
  • Please be weather aware this week. Students should come with coats, hats, gloves, boots, etc. We will probably not go outside today, but if it warms up students will be allowed to play in the snow as long as they have appropriate winter-wear (no boots, no snow is the policy in third grade!).
  • We will be presenting our book reports on Wednesday between 1:00 and 2:30pm. Students are welcome to bring them in earlier in the week, we may present a few on Tuesday just to make sure we have enough time to get them all in.
  • As we all know, this Thursday is Halloween!!! Our class party will start at 1:45 and go until the schoolwide costume parade starts at 2:45. You are welcome to come watch if have not signed up to be here for the class party. Many parents end up taking their child early when the parade is over. You are welcome to do this please just let me know when you are taking them. We will be doing a fun class craft at the end of day so your child will not be missing anything graded if they leave early. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SEND EMPTY TP ROLLS FOR USE IN OUR CRAFT.
Here is the class party sign up genius if you have not signed up for anything yet.
There is no Fundations homework this week :)

Please look for an email in the next few days that includes an outline for our Halloween festivities and a sign up genius to volunteer in the classroom or donate supplies/decor. The schoolwide costume parade will be on October 31st at 2pm, our party will start right after the parade and continue until dismissal.

October 7th-11th

Please remember there will be no school October 12th- October 13th for our Fall Break

September 30th-October 4th

Tuesday October 1st is a Formal Wear Day (first Tuesday of the month).

Wednesday, October 2 is Count Day! Our goal is perfect attendance on this day! Please make every effort to send your child to school on October 2. Our school funding is based off of the number of students present on Count Day. In order to encourage perfect attendance, October 2 will be a Spirit Wear Day. Students may wear jeans, shorts, or athletic pants with their spirit wear t-shirts or t-shirts/polos in our school colors (blue and green).
Thanks for your support!

Thursday October 3rd is picture retake day. Please email me if you are wanting your child to retake their school picture

September 22nd-26th
Conferences went really smooth last week and I enjoyed getting to spend a little more time getting to know you all. If you missed your conference or even would like to discuss things further, I am always happy to schedule something with you. We also had a ton of fun with our Pj and slime day reward, hopefully the kiddo's came home and told you they loved it!!

PJ and Slime Day

We have finished our class book, "The Tale of Despereaux" and will be trying to watch it 20 minutes at a time throughout the week. It is rated G so I am not sending permission slips home, but please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Students will have the chance to fill out a Venn diagram and compare book to movie.

This Friday is Pizza day if you order online through https://michaels.h1.hotlunchonline.net
This Friday is also cougar store day as it is the last Friday of the month.

September 16th-20th

Monday- is a pretty normal/routine day...minus the 12 parent teacher conferences I have scheduled : )

*If you haven't had a chance to sign up yet, it looks like I still have four slots left for the week, or you can email me and we can always work something out together. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0f4ca5ab2fa4fe3-back

Tuesday- This is our first spelling test of the year, you should have received spelling words last week for your child to study. If you never received those you can always go to my website and click on the ELA tab. I will always have the weeks spelling list posted. www.worldcompassacademy.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=1006711&type=u&pREC_ID=1529056

*Also please note- Tuesday is spirit day, please have your child dress in any WCA gear they may own, jeans are ok! Our spirit event will be held at Cold Stone Creamery from 4pm-8pm. A percentage of the proceeds come back to WCA!!

Wednesday- Another semi-normal day, please remember Wednesdays are library day so if your child would like to check out new book they need their old book/books turned in by 9:30 am so we can get them all rechecked back in.

Thursday- We have three big things happening today.
1- Our class reached their class reward goal for the second time this year and voted on "Make slime in P.J.'s...I know, what am I thinking?!!? It's a fun reward though so we are all excited. Please do not have them dress in brand new, super nice PJ's if you are at all worried about slime getting on them
2- Today is our social studies test on the seven continents and five oceans. There is also a part of the test that asks them to fill out a compass rose (N,NE,E,SE,S,SW,W,NW). We have been working on this for two weeks now and have been working on creating a study folder to take home. Some of them took theirs home (red folder) on Friday, but I noticed several of them forgot. I will remind them to take their study folder home again on Monday but if you could ask about them too- teamwork makes the dream work! Here are a few youtube links that are fun to watch while studying as well.
3- This is a half day so students will be released by 12:30, no lunch scheduled for third grade, but please send at least two snacks for the day as the kids get super hungry right at noon and sometimes aren't picked up until 12:45.

Friday- No school for students. I wanted to let you know the reason I did not schedule conferences for this day is because all Douglas County School District staff members will be at the Pepsi center for a district wide training and unveiling of the new strategic plan.

August 26-30th

Hi parents!

We are only one day away from being done with all our computerized beginning of the year MAPS tests! With this data we will be able to ability group and it will also help us track student progress throughout the year.

In our classroom we have a reward system where the students have a chance to earn a rubber ducky each time they are quiet in the halls and during things like assemblies and library. Well... the kids have been working really hard and have actually already earned their first reward for earning 10 ducks!! I allowed them to vote on what type of reward they would like and they chose free electronic time at the end of the day.

I did this a few times with my class last year and it went very smoothly with certain rules followed. They will be allowed to bring an ipad, kindle, old phone, Nintendo switch...really any personal electronic device you feel comfortable with them bringing. They will not be allowed to pull it our of their closed backpack until our reward time at the end of the day. They will be allowed to watch or play any school appropriate material. We do have a guest wifi at the school that has very high filters on it but can sometimes be very slow so i would suggest pre loaded/downloaded games and movies. At the end of our allotted time (about an hour) the kids will need to put their devices back into their backpacks, i will make sure they are zipped, and they are not allowed to pull them back out until they are with a parent and have parental permission.

With the high importance of no food due to allergies this is a very fun reward that the kids really enjoyed last year, hence them voting for it very first. I will be walking around the entire time making sure there are no inappropriate games or shows on but you can help me with this by checking to see there are no chats enabled or games with weapons or blood. Additionally, if you do not feel comfortable sending your student with an electronic device I will secure a computer cart for any student who didn't bring a device to play on WCA's secure Chrome books.

We will be doing our electronic day this coming Tuesday, September 3rd from 2pm- 3;15pm. Please let me know if you have any questions about our Electronic reward.

Also, I did send home a packet today explaining a new program we will be using in the classroom this year called 'Fundations.' Our entire third grade team was trained on this program in an all day professional development program in Denver over the summer. This should be a fun and exciting way to help our student implement phonics in their spelling and improve both spelling skills and results on spelling tests. Please read through the packet and let me know if you have any questions...no need to return it to class.

August 19-23

Here are this week's reminders and important information for the upcoming week:
  • Specials and foreign language begin tomorrow. Students will be going to specials with their foreign language classes this year to avoid losing time transitioning back to homerooms or alternative groups. Here is the specials schedule for the whole year, so that you can see where your kiddos will be. Please be sure to send your student in gym shoes if they have PE (shoes can also be placed in their backpacks, and I will allow them to change before they head out).
Screen Shot 2019-08-18 at 2.47.15 PM.png

  • This Thursday, August 22, is Fall Picture Day. Students will get individual pictures taken. You may choose formal or informal uniform. Flyers will be sent home tomorrow!
  • This Thursday and Friday from 8:30-10:00, students will be completing their first math MAP assessment of the year. This will provide me with data that I need to accurately place students in the appropriate math groups. Please encourage your student to do their best on this assessment, so that they are placed in their best-fit group. Please make sure that your child has headphones at school by Thursday!
Feel free to contact me anytime throughout the week if you have questions about what is happening in class!

I hope that you enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I look forward to seeing the kiddos tomorrow morning!

A few classroom reminders:
  • On Friday we will have our weekly study hall.  It is super important that kids get any unfinished  work from the week in by Friday morning to avoid being sent to study hall to complete it.

As always, If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask

Infinite Campus:
This year WCA will be using infinite campus for our grade book.  Please make sure you have access to infinite campus, the grade book will be sending out automatic updates if your child has any missing assignments.  If you log onto infinite campus you will be able to access your child's current grades.
