Teacher Bio

Hello! My name is Megan Swenson and I will be teaching 5th grade Writing as well as 7/8 English Language Arts this year at WCA. As an educator, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing the look of recognition upon a student's face as they discover something previously unknown or master a new principle. I hope to encourage the love of language and literature in my classroom this year.

 

I was born and raised in Preston, Idaho, yes, the very town of Napoleon Dynamite fame. When I was 12, my family moved to Antofagasta, Chile, for one year and it was an amazing experience. I am a graduate of Utah State University where I earned a B.S. in English and a B.S. in History. I love both so much, I couldn't choose! After college, I went on to teach 7/8 English at West Point Jr. High in West Point, Utah.

 

I have been married to my husband Daniel for 18 years. We moved to Colorado 5 years ago from Trussville, Alabama. We have four children that keep us on our toes: Cooper, a freshman at DC, and Bailey, Allie, and Spencer, who are all students at WCA.

 

In my spare time I love to bake and have previously owned a bakery business. I also love to read, travel, and complete woodworking/diy projects around our home. I can't wait to share my enthusiasm about reading, writing, and history with your students this year.
