Mr. Benson is starting his first year at World Compass Academy teaching Middle School Math. Although an engineer by vocation he has a strong math background. Prior to coming here he taught engineering at a local high school where students from the classes he taught and the TSA club for which he was the Advisor, brought home more than a dozen State Championship trophies. He also was the Advisor for the Aviation club and taught an after-school pilot ground course the past two years.
Prior to teaching he worked as an astronautical engineer on satellites, and before that he served in the United States Navy on submarines where he was a nuclear engineer, retiring after 23-years of service to our country.
Mr. Benson's passion for teaching youth extends outside the classroom as a Scoutmaster, Assistant SM, Venture Crew Committee Chair, Lodge Associate Advisor, Chapter Associate Advisor, OKPIK cold-weather camping instructor, National and World Jamboree Scoutmaster and Staff member. He has led crews on four canoeing expeditions into the Canadian backcountry, four backpacking treks at Philmont, NM, and four sailing and snorkeling adventures in the Bahamas and Florida Keys, including co-ed crews. At the 2019 World Scout Jamboree during the summer of 2019, where over 40,000 scouts from more than 150 countries attended and met other future leaders of the world, he asked one young lady based on the British shirt she was wearing, "Are you from Britain?" "NO!, I'M FROM WALES!!" He certainly learned that day ...
