Learning Target: Concept/Skill: Physical Activity ABC Fitness Chart

Standard: CO Standard 3.1 (b) Identify feelings that result from participation in physical activity.

-Jumping Jacks: stand with hands by side, jump in the air and spread feet apart and bring your arms up by your head. 

-Push Ups: hands on ground, straight back, feet together 

-Sit Ups: lay on back, knees bent, feet on ground, lift chest up to knees then back down -Plank: Keep a straight back with forearms and toes on the ground 

-Arm Circles: Arms straight out to the side, make small circles forward or backward 

-Squats: stand with feet shoulder width apart, bend knees as if sitting on a chair, slowly move body up and down 

-Lunges: step forward with one foot, bend knees down, don’t let knees touch the floor, step back (repeat on other side)

-Jumps: stand with feet together, bend knees when you jump

-Hops: stand on one foot & jump

Lesson/Task: 

  1. Use the ABC Fitness Chart to Spell your first name with exercise. 
  • Example: (Lisa) L: 5 sit ups   I: 10 Lunges S: 5 push ups A: 20 jumping jacks
  1. What other fitness activities did (or will you do) this week?
  2. How do you feel after you do a physical activity?

Assessment: To demonstrate mastery: parent/guardian can assess their student (see accountability below) 

Closure

Take this to the next level with more fitness activity

  • Try using your last name instead of your first name
  • Change the exercises for each letter

PE Kindergarten Lesson Plans Week of 3/23

Learning Target: Concept/Skill: Identify Body Planes, Students will be able to identify position/ terms in relation to their body as well as to someone else’s body. 

Standard: CO Standard 1.2 Identify the front, back and side of the body, personal skill: self-awareness

Lesson/Task (the entire lesson can be done in 1 day, or broken up into 4 days, see Friday under Closure below)

  • Tuesday:
    • Teach your student the terms: Front, Back and Side
  • Wednesday:
    • Have your student select an object (example: stuffed animal, ball, pillow, toy)
    • Have your student hold their chosen object in front of them, in back of them and on the side of their body.
  • Thursday:
    • Using the object from Wednesday, have your student hold their chosen object in the positions on another person’s body.

Assessment: To demonstrate mastery: parent/guardian can assess their student (see accountability below) 

Closure

  • Friday:
    • Possible answers might include: lining up in front of or behind someone, you sit next to someone, etc..
    • Talk about the terms on a deeper level using the same object
    • Left, Right, Next to, Besides, Behind, Above, Below, Under, Beneath, Higher, Lower
    • Ask your student: How do you use these terms in school?

My grading is done on a proficiency scale. Exceeds Expectations, Meets Expectations, Progressing Towards Expectations.  My goal is to have students Meet Expectations. Here is how grades are broken out:
 
Grading Part 1: PE is based off the Colorado Kindergarten Standards, students will be able to:
Standard 1:
1. Demonstrate body and spatial awareness through movement.
2. Locate and move the major parts of the body.
Standard 2:
1. Under that physical activity increases the heart rate, making the heart stronger.
Standard 3: 
1. Demonstrate respect for self, others and equipment.
2. Demonstrate the ability to follow Directions.
Standard 4:
1. Apply safe practices, rules and procedures.
 
Grading Part 2: Execution Functioning Skill for Kindergarteners are:
1. Behavior
2. Respect
3. Participation
