While Susan's family roots were seeded in Nebraska, she has spent most of her life in the wonderful state of Colorado. Shebegan her career in education with Englewood Public Schools, where she taught 4th and 5th grades. She moved to Jefferson County Public Schools where she spent 20+ years as a teacher, administrator and assistant principal at the middle and high school levels. She spent the last 13 years as an elementary school principal in Jefferson County.
After attending her first two years of college at Hastings College in Nebraska, she obtained her B.A. from Metropolitan State University in Denver and went on to earn her M.A. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Innovation from the University of Colorado. She holds both a professional teaching license as well as a professional principal license in the state of Colorado.
Married to her college sweetheart, Susan and her husband live in Larkspur. They have two children and six grandchildren who keep her grounded in the importance of a quality education for all kids. Her passion encompasses a mastery approach to academic outcomes through flexible ability grouping and individualized educational goals, and she looks forward to continuing her work with the WCA students, staff and community.
Middle School Principal
Bethany holds a Professional Teaching License and Principal License in the state of Colorado. This Fall she will begin her eleventh year in education. She has been a member of World Compass administration for the past two years, most recently serving as our Director of Middle School. Prior to her work at World Compass, she taught in Utah, France, and in Douglas County.
Mrs. Merkling is the founder of World Compass Academy, creating the initial vision for the school, writing much of the original charter, serving as the founding board president, and leading the amazing team who opened the school. She is well-versed in the World Compass curriculum, having taught using Core Knowledge, FOSS, Guided Reading, and Step Up to Writing.
She spends her free time running and spending time with her three little boys
Mrs. Samantha Seniw graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and amaster's degree in Educational Leadership. She has a Professional Teaching License and a Principal Licensure. Mrs. Seniw has been a part of World Compass Academy since year one and has loved helping the school grow each year.
Mrs. Seniw has lived in Colorado her whole life, and her family and friends are everything to her. She recently got married and moved into a new house in Parker. She absolutely loves working with children and is looking forward to another year at our amazing school!
