Teacher Bio

My name is Kristin Marqués, and I am the 5th grade English/Language Arts and Writing teacher at World Compass Academy. 5th grade was my favorite year in school because we explored creative writing, research, fiction and poetry all within one year, and I hope to bring that same experience to experience to each of my students.
I moved to Castlerock in mid-2018 from Houston, Texas. I earned a B.A. in History and English from the University of Houston, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership at Regis University and have completed all of the academic work toward a Ph.D. in leadership and hope to complete my dissertation within the next 12 months. As a life-long learner and self-proclaimed 'book nerd." In addition to teaching at WCA, I teach Business, Sales & Marketing at Colorado State University. I have also lectured through Arapahoe Community College at the Colorado Early Colleges in Castle Rock.
I have three children: My oldest son attended CU in Boulder where he majored in film and cinematic studies. My daughter graduated from Colorado Early Colleges and now attends school in Los Angeles where she is majoring in Liberal Studies and hopes to one day be an elementary teacher. My 11 year old son will be attending 6th grade at World Compass Academy this year. We also have 4 dogs! Two golden retrievers, Rolly and Tag, and Australian Shepherd named Hubie and an American Bulldog named Casio. They all join us on hikes, road-trips, and are under our feet at every family dinner!

My husband is an Internal Medicine Physician. When we are not working or studying, we enjoy traveling both the United States and the world. I have been to England, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, France, Turkey, Greece, Mexico, Germany, and Austria, and Japan along with countless different states (Colorado is my favorite!). I led a summer trip for students to Italy in 2024, and to Japan in 2026.
This summer (2026), after heading to Japan with other members of our school community, I attended the Sphere Summit at the Cato Institute where I gathered with other educators to learn how to foster civil discourse, viewpoint diversity, and constructive civic engagement in classrooms. In addition, I attended Approaching Walden, a six-day professional development seminar for educators, held at The Walden Woods Project headquarters in Lincoln, MA, focusing on teaching Thoreau's philosophy, natural history, and environmental studies. I am also a facilitator for Colorado Humanities.
I believe that communication is a skill that continues to grow and develop over the course of our lives, and the upper-elementary and middle school foundations of reading and writing are essential for student success. I am committed to meeting each student where they are, challenging and supporting as necessary, while also making language fun. Reading, writing, learning and growing should be an adventure, and I am excited to share it with the staff at students at World Compass Academy.
