Welcome to 5th grade!

My name is Kristin Esparza, and I am the 5th grade English/Language Arts teacher at World Compass Academy. 5th grade was my favorite year in school because we explored creative writing, research, fiction and poetry all within one year, and I hope to bring that same experience to experience to each of my students.
I moved to Castlerock in mid-2018 from Houston, Texas. I earned a B.A. in History and English from the University of Houston, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership at Regis University and have completed all of the academic work toward a Ph.D. in leadership and hope to complete my dissertation within the next 24 months. As a life-long learner and self-proclaimed 'book nerd,' I also have certifications in English as a Second Language, Executive Leadership, Theology and Life Coaching.
I have three children: My oldest son lives on campus at CU Boulder where he is is studying film and cinematic studies. I have a 13 year old daughter who is creative and enjoys art, shopping and writing. My 7 year old son will be attending 2nd grade at World Compass Academy this year and playing tennis in his free time. We also have 2 golden retrievers, Rolly and Tag, who join us on hikes, road-trips, and are under our feet at every family dinner!
When we are not working or studying, we enjoy traveling both the United States and the world. I have been to England, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and Mexico along with 17 different states (Colorado is my favorite!). This fall, I will be visiting Istanbul, Turkey and exploring Greece. During winter break, I plan to take my daughter to Spain!
I believe that communication is a skill that continues to grow and develop over the course of our lives, and the upper-elementary and middle school foundations of reading and writing are essential for student success. I am committed to meeting each student where they are, challenging and supporting as necessary, while also making language fun. Reading, writing, learning and growing should be an adventure, and I am excited to share it with the staff at students at World Compass Academy.
