Teacher Bio

My name is Kristin Marqués, and I am the 5th grade English/Language Arts and Writing teacher at World Compass Academy. 5th grade was my favorite year in school because we explored creative writing, research, fiction and poetry all within one year, and I hope to bring that same experience to experience to each of my students.

I moved to Castlerock in mid-2018 from Houston, Texas. I earned a B.A. in History and English from the University of Houston, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership at Regis University and have completed all of the academic work toward a Ph.D. in leadership and hope to complete my dissertation within the next 24 months. As a life-long learner and self-proclaimed 'book nerd,' I also have certifications in English as a Second Language, Executive Leadership, Theology and Life Coaching. In addition to teaching at WCA, I also teach Business at Colorado State University and through Arapahoe Community College at the Colorado Early Colleges in Castle Rock.

I have three children: My oldest son lives on campus at CU Boulder where he is is studying film and cinematic studies. I have a 14 year old daughter who is creative and enjoys art, shopping and writing. My 8 year old son will be attending 3rd grade at World Compass Academy this year and playing soccer on the weekends. We also have 4 dogs! Two golden retrievers, Rolly and Tag, and Australian Shepherd named Hubie and a pitbull named Bruce. They all join us on hikes, road-trips, and are under our feet at every family dinner!

My husband is an Internal Medicine Physician When we are not working or studying, we enjoy traveling both the United States and the world. I have been to England, Ireland, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, France, Turkey, Greece and Mexico along with 17 different states (Colorado is my favorite!). This winter, I plan to visit Germany and Austria to see the Christmas Markets and a Mozart concert in Vienna.

I believe that communication is a skill that continues to grow and develop over the course of our lives, and the upper-elementary and middle school foundations of reading and writing are essential for student success. I am committed to meeting each student where they are, challenging and supporting as necessary, while also making language fun. Reading, writing, learning and growing should be an adventure, and I am excited to share it with the staff at students at World Compass Academy.
