Looking forward:

  • Middle School English  Honors Recommendations: During the 3rd trimester, it is increasingly important that students turn in their best work. At the end of the year, I partner with middle school English teachers to review student performance and writing to make recommendations for Honors placement. Student ability is a component of this recommendation, but so too is effort, consistency and quality of work.

All Classes: This week we will finalize our unit over the Reformation with specific emphasis on writing summaries of informational texts.

Monday: Activity 9.2 should have been completed in class on Thursday. If it was not, students were to take it home for homework and be prepared to move forward today. Once the teacher has stamped 9.2, students will work in partners to identify keywords and ideas from each page of chapter 9 and fill out a summary chart.

Tuesday: Students will write a summary of chapter 9, have a peer review it and make final revisions and edits before turning in. Students will be given a copy of the Reformation review sheet.

Wednesday: In-class review of the Reformation Unit and how to write a summary.

Thursday: Unit Test over the Reformation. This is not a major grade.

Friday: Begin our next unit:  The Adventures of Don Quixote by Cervantes.

All Classes: This week we dig into our final unit, The Adventures of Don Quixote!

Wednesday: Read chapter 3 again, but from a different adaptation. Compare and contrast the 2 versions of the story. Complete Activity 3.2. If this is not completed in class, it should be completed at home (estimated time: ~15 minutes)

Thursday: Review elements of an opinion essay for upcoming final essay that will examine whether or not the student believes that Don Quixote’s actions are justified.

Friday: NO SCHOOL.
