King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Students may be reading a different version of the story, based on their reading level.

We are starting a novel study of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Students may be reading a different version of the story, based on their reading level.

  • Monday:  Arthurian Legends (Activity Page) Learning Target: I can summarize the childhood of King Arthur.
  • Tuesday: Character description  Learning Target: I can describe the characters of Merlin and Arthur, and can explain how Arthur became King of Britain.
  • Wednesday: Order of events Learning Target: I can describe the events of The Sword in the Stone.
  • Thursday: Traits and Values Learning Target: I can describe the traits and values King Arthur wants his knights to possess.
  • Friday: Summarize  Learning Target:  I can summarize an event from the story, using the 5 W’s - Who, What, Where, When, and Why.

Monday- Studying Elaboration Techniques  Learning Target: I can study a mentor text and describe the features that authors use to elaborate on an active nonfiction topic.
Tuesday-  Try out Elaboration Techniques Learning Target:  I can practice an elaboration technique when I plan my own active nonfiction writing piece.

Tuesday- Examine a Writer’s Technique Learning Target: Students can examine example Writer’s Notebooks and list the different techniques used (lists, webs, comparing ideas, making a plan)
Wednesday- Expand on a Writing Idea  Learning Target: Students will develop their ideas into a specific writing type: opinion, informational, or narrative.
Thursday- Planning in a Writer’s Notebook  Learning Target: Students can list the different ways to use their Writer’s Notebook, using examples from professional writers.

Monday- Categorize writing types/Idea generation (Writer's Notebook) Learning Target: Students will study how and why to categorize writing types for inspiration. Students practice coming up with ideas and using a notebook to explore ideas further
Tuesday- Examine a Writer’s Notebook/Develop a Writing Idea (Writer's Notebook) Learning Target: Students use notebooks to develop ideas. Students develop a topic or idea.
Wednesday- Examine a Writer’s Technique  (Writer's Notebook) Learning Target: Students will examine the different techniques writers use to generate and develop ideas.
Thursday- Expanding on a Writing Idea (Writer's Notebook) Learning Target: Students will organize a developing idea in a way that will help them to write about it further.
