WCA Food Allergy Policy

WCA FOOD Allergy Policy

World Compass Academy is an allergy aware campus. We take food allergies seriously and understand they can be life threatening. Recognizing that the risk of accidental exposure to foods can be reduced in the school setting, we are committed to working with students, parents/guardians, and providers to minimize risk and to provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students. As such, we implement the following guidelines:

  • Students are not permitted to share food.
  • Students may bring snacks from home to consume in the classroom as long as “tree nuts” and “peanuts” are not listed in the ingredient list. Labels that state “may contain,” “produced on shared equipment with,” or “produced in a plant that uses” tree nuts or peanuts are permitted to be consumed by the student in the classroom if he/she brought it from home.
  • Students should notify an adult immediately if they eat something they believe may contain a food to which they are allergic.
  • Staff are trained by our registered nurse to recognize and respond to anaphylaxis. They have rapid access to prescribed epinephrine auto-injectors in cases of emergency.

BIRTHDAY & OTHER CELEBRATIONS
Students love to celebrate birthdays and other special occasions at school, as it is a memorable time to share with teachers and friends. In order to foster a healthy environment, minimize food allergy exposures, and maximize student instructional time, students are NOT ALLOWED to bring in food items for birthday & other celebrations.
