Early Mandarin Immersion Class 23/24
Dear Parents,
The supplemental Mandarin Immersion Class program is open to all 5th-8th grade advanced students. It is a year round course from Monday to Friday, runs the whole year as the daily routine classes.
Students need to check the Google Classroom for daily teaching contents and do some assignments and get ready for the next day's quizzes at home. This course requires students to have a sense of foreign language, take this class seriously, and work hard. All upper school students are welcome to try. I believe immersion in this class the longer time, the more pays off.
First early immersion class starts on Aug 28th. This class is open to 5th-8th students. This year I opened a new curriculum for Immersion class. This course opens to 5th-8th students who are interested in Chinese culture. I will introduce China in many ways. No language proficiency required. I will present 30 topics, four topics per month, including geography, history, cities, architecture, famous scenic spots, operas, animals, plants, food, snacks and so on. For example: Terracotta Warriors, Cloisonne, Potala Palace, etc. Through the understanding of some topics of interest, students can comprehensively improve their listening, speaking, and reading skills.
This course has videos and photos presentations and a little bit of food tasting. Classroom activities include dialogue practices, reading aloud texts, memorizing new words, classroom games and public performances. I will ask students to memorize some sentences. For example:
I saw a sprinkler truck. The streets were clean. The bayberry drink is delicious, etc. They are always welcome to try, I think most students will be all right to stay.
If there is an emergency, for example there is a teacher's early meeting that I cannot make it, I will send out an email to let the parents and students know to skip the next day's class.
