Course Introduction:

This Mandarin summer camp has 8 lessons held Tuesdays to Friday for two weeks, two hours each session. This course takes the “Chinese Civilization” series of stories and uses them to immerse children in the history and culture of Chinese civilization in the past three thousand years. The goal is to open student’s interest in language and culture. Students will learn basic Mandarin sentences and dialogues, trace and write Chinese characters, and enjoy learning about traditional Chinese etiquette, food, handicrafts, calligraphy, stories, music and sports, etc.
Lessons will be based around "The Beauty of Chinese Civilization"(中华文明之美), a popular Chinese public welfare show, produced by Hunan TV station in China. The stories that are part of this series are used to spread traditional Chinese culture to young people. The stories are designed to be funny and entertaining, while providing an educational lesson. In our camp we will use the classroom environment to incorporate stories from ancient and modern China and to theme the day’s lesson and activities.
